Are you a solo or co-founder?

There's always a steady flow of posts with indie hackers looking for co-founders. I thought it would be interesting to get an insight into how indie hackers are set up.

Are you a solo or co-founder? And are you happy with how it currently is?

Here is a Twitter poll for fun.

Solo Founder. And I'm happy this way.

I think partly for me it comes down to priorities. If I my priority was raising money, build a billion dollar company, changing the world etc ... then I could probably do with a co-founder.

But my short term priority is purely making enough money to go full time . And I think being a solo founder is better for this setup.

It's interesting, they all want you to have a co-founder, then TechStarts for example says 65% of startup failures are due to co-founder infighting.

        interesting.

different strokes for different folks, i guess. but not my thing

Solo. Everybody around me thinks the product has no future 😅

Sorry, that comment made me laugh 😬

That solo life. Only one customer so far, but hopefully more to come. :)

Started my first business in 5th grade and ran it for eight years. I took on two different equal partners over the years and learned that meant I came up with 100% of the ideas, did 70% of the work, and got 50% of the money. Never again. However, progress as a solo founder is SLOW.

    Currently, solo.
    In the past, co-founder.

I've enjoyed both, but currently like being solo as it allows me to move at my own pace.

Solo founder who's opened to onboard my friend as a co-founder later on, as things pick up:)

It's interesting. I am technically a solo founder, however, I am mentoring someone younger and teaching him to code while having him hold me accountable and help me grow the business.

Solo, but would love to have a cofo. Just don't know anyone who's got the same skills, outlook or temperament that would complement my own.

For those with cofos, what is your high-fives VS conflict ratio when choosing a partner?

  9. 1

I have a co-founder who is an expert in our niche and is just a natural marketer with plenty of hustle.
I'm on the technical side as I find myself more naturally in that niche.

  10. 1

Solo, but I'm still tackling my niche.

  11. 1

A Co-Founder. Always better with two. No more, no less :)

  12. 1

Solo for most of my projects, but I do have one I am looking for a co-founder on. Will respond on the Twitter poll as well.

Solo Founder but really wish I had a partner (cannot call them co-founder since business is established for 5 years). Have a team already but no one has skin in the game and so far I have failed to nurture/find someone in existing team who wants a bit more than employee status.

Solo here. I work full-time so having a co-founder (other than my wife :) ) is quite tough. Maybe the future has more in store but for now I'm digging it. Time is the ultimate hardest obstacle.

  15. 1

Solo. I have a couple close friends who I would trust to be cofounders but other than that I can't really imagine joining up with anyone.

I'm happy as is but it does mean I need to put effort into getting outside the house and doing basic social-human activities :p

  16. 1

Sólo, although I haven't yet started my business.

When I do though, I'd probably recruit one of 2 tech cofounder prospects that I already have inline, so I can focus more on the business side of the company and let the other one handle the tech stuff (also this would mean me having more equity, not so interested in the money side but more on the decision side of the company)

  17. 1

Yes. I mean who has just one thing going on 😀

  18. 1

I'm a solo-founder and am happy. I'm not opposed to co-founding and think the montra "go fast alone, go far together" generally holds true.

I imagine the solo designation is more a result of odds than philosophy or goals. A good co-founder fit is hard to come by, so until one presents itself, I'll continue to be happy flying solo.

  19. 1

Solo. I enjoy going fast and breaking things.

  20. 1

Co-founder! I'm very happy with how it is, because previously, it was tough as a solo guy.

I do most of the sales, branding, and client-facing stuff, and Anya does most of the real work and manages our team.

  21. 1

Co foumder. We are 2 technical guys. We do recocnize that we both have low sales and marketing skills it will be a challenge to get over it and make it work

  22. 1

Co-founder here - I'm handle all the tech while the other guy manages the business and relationships. Almost a year in and so far it's working well.
