Challenge: Pitch your business idea in 10 words for fewer

"What does your business do and why should I use it?" Can you answer that question in 10 words or fewer?

While you're at it, be helpful and comment on someone else's pitch to tell them what you think. 😇

Whoever has the best pitch (and gives someone else feedback) gets a free t-shirt.

hyperping.io - Beautifully simple and reliable uptime monitoring 😎

    1. 1

      This looks nice and useful.

  2. 8

Sales For Founders: Learn sales and find your first customers, faster.

    1. 3

Hey Louis, your link doesn't work. The "www." subdomain has a wrong certificate. The root domain is fine.

      1. 1

        Oops, thanks!

Updated it now and should propagate soon.

        Thanks for the catch!

Landen - The website builder for startups

    1. 3

Very clear! But how are you different with so many other website builders, also for startups?

      1. 4

Good question! There isn't really one key thing but a lot of small differences: Automated design instead of drag and drop, Very user friendly UI, Built-in analytics, Built-in small blogging platform, Built-in email list collection, Stripe and Zapier integrations, Realtime collaboration, Art library with icons and premium illustrations. There are the old and clunky market leaders with their out-of-date tech and design. Then there are a lot new and beautiful design solutions but without any hosting, good editor, and so on. Landen tries to combine both worlds.

        1. 2

And site speed...forgot that. I noticed landen sites are quick!

          1. 1

oh yeah, I love making things fast. There's still a lot of potential left which I'll tap soon.

            1. 1

Do you guys have a social share option? In other words, once a user joins your list, they can then share the page with their friends across social with a built in title option of the shared post?

        2. 1

Impressive! Very powerful website builder. I used WP premium for blogging in our website - very bad experience - difficult to customize. Will definitely check it out when we decide to redo our website. I see a lot physical shops who may be interested in your offer. When they wanted to convert to e-commerce, they will pay a developper 10k for a simple website, then a part-time contractor for digital marketing...your solution can save them a tons of money...

    2. 2

Great. In spite of having so many website builders already in market, Landen still made its mark.

      Appreciate your efforts.

    3. 2

I like it. And also your service!

      1. 1

Thanks Gene, took a while to get there. One of the first was "Automated landing page design" then "Generate, build and publish beautiful websites" and now the startup spin.

      1. 1

Bubble lets you build entire web-applications with databases, user management, and lots of dynamic content. Landen is mostly for static marketing websites to show off your product. There are some dynamic add-ons such as the blogging and email lists, but you won't be able to build something more complex with Landen.

  4. 7

Versoly - SaaS focused landing page builder that actually converts.

    1. 2

That's funny, I just met you a week ago on the Side Hustle Discord server and now I find you here. Upvoted!

      1. 2

        Good to see you here.

Normally there is little crossover between IH and Discord, I think IH has an older audience.

    2. 2

Perfect! Exactly what people here need to use.

      1. 1

Thanks. I had this problem myself on my last startup.

practicesql.com - Real-world SQL exercises in your browser

    1. 5

Since you already have a great descriptive name, what about just: "Real-world SQL exercises in your browser"?

      1. 3

I think that's great feedback. Consider it adopted.

    2. 1

Which SQL flavour (MySQL, Postgres, etc.) are you using? How do you validate/execute the practice queries? Live db (seems risky, but maybe with the right permissions)?

Great product; lots of potential to be the de facto SQL learning site and have a nice exit to Pluralsite or other :)

      1. 1

Thanks for the interest! I've built-out tech that allows users to run arbitrary SQL statements safely against a live, isolated database- this means that you can safely select, insert, delete, truncate, create, alter, etc.- without impacting any other users.

The system holds numerous different data sets with a number of questions against each data set. Rather than spending effort with a specific SQL variant, the exercises can be solved using standard SQL.

    3. 1

It's quite intriguing . I do want to know more: for which purposes? learning or playing. For who? starters or advanced...
I think as tag-line, it's simple and easy to understand. It works out to make people to want to know more. Well done!

      1. 1

Thanks for the feedback! It's primarily for learning, but playing/gamification is on the list of nice-to-have features after it's launched. Exercises range from simple to complex.

Anything to increase engagement will help to further the goal of making the world (of people who are interested, anyway) into SQL experts!

    4. 1

I might also add something about timing - what's the time investment?

      1. 1

That's a good question. The intention is to provide a lot of exercises that are individually fairly quick to complete, so the value is in the ability to do lots of (guided, mentored) practice. This practice is entirely self-directed, so you can move at your own pace. How to fit that into 10 words? I'm not really sure :)

  6. 5

Draftss.com - Graphic design and frontend code on subscription

    1. 2

Maybe "Subscription-based Design and (Interface or UI) Development Services."

      1. 1

Interesting suggestion. I shall A/B test to see which one works out best.

    stackmate.io - effortless application & infrastructure deployments

    1. 1

Neat, I'm going to steal that :-)

  8. 5

Covertly make notes while talking to another person.

(not the primary use case of https://threedo.app, but I found myself doing just that lately. I impressed a few people with not forgetting to get back to them afterwards)

    1. 3

      'Sneaky note-taking app!' :-)

      1. 1

It's more like an "productivity app that lets you capture tasks super-quickly". But sneakily adding a reminder to send the other person some materials after the meeting, and making it look like you were just checking time, is magic :)

        1. 1

yeah, but the 'sneaky note taking app' market is way less crowded 😀

          1. 1

I don't have much competition either :) The only ones remotely similar that I know are iOS apps Due and Later.

But yeah, definitely a pivot opportunity. Or a nice marketing prop :)

    2. 2

Fantastic idea and great looking page & app! Installed!

Can I ask though to slow down the animations - I can't read what the blocks when it goes so quickly so initially wasn't sure what was happening.

      1. 1

        Thanks!

The animations on the landing page, you mean? They weren't really meant to be readable, but to impress. But I see where you're coming from. My plans to remake the LP and the assets are long overdue.

    3. 1

That's a really cool app! I wish it had an iPhone version. What's your business model?

      1. 1

Thanks! I'm definitely planning an iPhone version and even have interviewed some candidates for hire. But I never got around to writing a formal spec for them so that they could start working. Still stuck delivering promised features.

Business model is a simple freemium. Free + subscriptions + one-time purchase option for a limited set of pro features (no cloud ones). No ads. No data mining — in fact the app won't even collect any analytics unless you opt in. Cloud sync is end-to-end encrypted (I do have a backdoor though, but that's solely for compliance).

    4. 1

      Cool app - installed!

  9. 4

GrowYourClicks - Start learning skills in design, illustration and digital marketing.

  10. 4

Nice name. Maybe write it as OhHi.me to make it more apparent at first look.

  11. 4

datae - version control system for structured data.

    1. 1

Owwww... this is most definitely the most interesting product in this list. Very nice idea, need to find some time to read into it! Tagline is good too :-)

  12. 4

shakebugs.com - SDK that speeds up your bug fixing process 10X

(P.S. This is my first comment on IH ever so hi everyone as well 👋🤓)

    1. 3

I think this needs to say for which platform. I don't build apps, so it's no use to me, but it's not obvious from the tagline. Conversely, app developers might not think it's for them...

      1. 1

You're quite right actually, @tacl. Your feedback is appreciated a lot 👍we'll work on the 10-word pitch a bit.

        1. 2

I have just read 2 articles. Will let you know once i read more, surely in my pipeline.

I have a query though. Currently you have very less content, and its understandable given such high quality. How do you plan to put more content and ensure continued quality at the same time ?

          1. 2

why thank you. It will grow slowly I think.

Hopefully I'll look back in a month and there will be 10 more pieces up.

But yeah, this is defiantly part of the challenge. Because my publishing rate isn't too fast haha

      1. 1

Great to hear! Let me know what you think about it after using it

    2. 1

Nice idea, but needs improvement. Does not work on google.com . Some fields seemed tough to edit on other sites like hunter.io

Octopulse.io - SaaS that makes SEO and SEA accessible for start-ups

    1. 3

TimeTurtle - the most interactive time tracking app

    1. 1

Interesting app! Like a schedule builder but for real time! It's a bit confusing for a first time user that you have to create a new project before you can create an event, see if you could design a functionality to create a new project from the original "create event" window...

      1. 1

  36. 2

mailfloss.com - Bulk email verification for busy businesses.

    1. 1

Nice business! Server resources are obviously unavoidable...but is there any way to bring the cost down? Like selling a self hosted software or something they can host themselves? I'm not referring to you specifically, just a general thought since these costs add up but are also a must.

      1. 1

Yes, there are self-hosted solutions and even free open-source packages available. But you get what you pay for. There are technical nuances involved that aren't cheap (though some people will be fine getting the 80/20 version with an open source package). Even though we're one of the more affordable solutions out there, that's not how we position ourselves and not the type of customer we're going for. It's a race to the bottom and hard to compete on price as an indiehacker.

        1. 1

          That makes total sense.

https://hashforms.com - Simplest way to build complex calculation forms for business

    1. 2

Hey - this is not about the pitch, but you should add more space in your landing page, and work on the blue text on blue background contrast (would be better to use another color for the text).

Also, why not demo your product on the chat you have on the website. I think that would be cool ;-)

Newny.io - Create real-time, temporary and topically sorted discussions.

    1. 1

The website doesn't tell me anything at all about what the product is. A gateway to new thinking? You'll need to get a lot more specific than that :)

Then, I found that tiny "how does it work" button... Why not give that information directly on the landing page? Or at least make the button more obvious?

      1. 1

Thank you for taking the time to check and for your feedback!

I'm definitely working on getting that changed for sure! I'm in the middle of revamping the landing page adding more specificity to it and making it make more descriptive, my messaging at the moment needs some work!

I'm actually about to create a discussion around this and more about the product, I'd love to have you join in on Newny! Let me know if you want to take part, I'll send you the invite link :)
