THE BLURB

When Anne Carpenter’s husband died, he left her stranded in this remote frontier valley with two daughters to provide for and a boarding house as the sole means of doing so. Mustering all her grit, she’s managed to keep a roof over their heads…until an unexpected disaster leaves her destitute and dependent.
Pastor Rutherford Gentry is a man with a secret. When everything he’s devoted his life to goes up in smoke, he finds an unexpected opportunity to once more be of service…but does he have anything meaningful to offer?
Charlotte and Rufus MacMannus came to Elizabethtown in New Mexico Territory to start over after a devastating loss, but it seemed that trouble followed them. Now they struggle to use the few years and resources they have left the best way they know how.
After surviving unimaginable abuse, a Shoshone woman and her son are determined to rebuild their lives in the community that gave them shelter, but cultural differences add to their challenge to make a new home in a new community.
Hiram Newman understands the struggles of his young mixed-race apprentice because he’s faced similar abuses, himself. Now he has a chance to step up and accomplish things he’s only dared to dream of doing…but fears he’s not up to the task.

One community…five households in crisis…
Despite their differences, can they build anew on the ashes of their dreams and create something of beauty from the broken pieces of their lives?

THE AUTHOR

jun8o464oljbiq2folipl64uol._SX300_CR0,0,300,300_Growing up in Texas, I dictated my first stories to my mama before I was old enough to write them down myself. She humored me, for which I am grateful, and I’ve been telling stories in one form or another ever since.

Fast forward more years than I’ll admit to. Children grown. House (relatively) quiet. And I have a slew of characters living in my head, all clamoring to tell their stories and insisting that I write them!

I write about the things I know. The things I love–God, family, history–and how those things fit together to demonstrate timeless truths.

Time is precious. As a reader, you give a great gift when you choose to spend time reading my books, and I’m grateful.

My ambition is to give you a gift of memorable stories in return.

MY REVIEW

Ms. Dean has ‘stitched’ a lovely story of friendship and devotion and community. She has beautifully illustrated how we each complement one another, and that the whole is not complete without each of its component parts, or friends, as in her story.

Each of the characters has their own part of the story to tell, personal history that makes them an integral part of the community. The reader can identify with some of all of the elements of each of the characters—and hopefully with the unity among them.

The author has beautifully illustrated the value of each individual with the visual of the quilt, and the beauty of the finished product.

One of the sweetest and most powerful stories this reviewer has read.

THE BLURB

Wife. Mother. Homemaker. Detective. Kit Forge wears many hats, and if that’s not enough, she’s partnered with her father to open a new detective agency. It’s hard to be all things to all people, but Kit never shies away from the impossible. Despite her hard work and good intentions, some things fall through the cracks.
Namely, her husband.
But Jackson barely notices. He’s too busy putting out his own fires. As the new chief inspector of a busy London station, he must salvage the disaster left behind by the former police chief—an obstacle made all the harder when the superintendent breathes an ultimatum down his neck.
Against her father’s advice, Kit takes on a case involving a missing child, one in which she and Jackson become a little too emotionally involved. . .and end up endangering their own little girl in the process.

Can Kit and Jackson learn that just because they can say yes doesn’t mean they should?

THE AUTHOR

9303o0q35r1sqrc7kibmvc485v._SX300_CR0,0,0,0_I hear voices. Loud. Incessant. And very real. Which basically gives me two options: choke back massive amounts of Prozac or write fiction. I’ve been writing since I discovered blank wall space and Crayolas. I seek to glorify God in all that I write–except for that graffiti phase I went through as teenager.

MY REVIEW

Every book I’ve read by this author has been intense and gripping. And the Blackfriars Lane series is no exception.

Life in the Victorian era was no piece of cake. Especially for a single woman on her own. (The Thief of Blackfriars Lane) I’ve enjoyed being a part of Kit’s journey. And as a mother myself, I felt deeply her need to protect her baby (The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane) at all cost. And yet, her past, the fast-paced, split-second decisions, tugged at her. The thrill, even of a deadly chase, called to her like a siren song. But that song was no longer the only tune playing, and it was in dissonant contrast to the new song of her life.

Ms. Griep’s characters are vibrant, colorful, dimensional, real. The vernacular of the era, the speech, the vocabulary, are especially fascinating to me—and makes the story all the more authentic.

The action, though, and twists, keep the reader turning pages—and second guessing the outcome.

THE BLURB

One cookbook connects them all…
Polly ~ Book One in a string of heartfelt inspirational stories, featuring different women throughout the decades from 1920 to 2020.

The Great War has ended, but Polly Holloway’s heart is shattered when her fiancé finally returns home—with a French war bride. Now her future feels desolate, until she fastens onto the idea of using her skills and a special cookbook to turn her grandfather’s Victorian house into a fashionable ladies’ tearoom. Yet, how will she endure the patronage of the woman who stole her sweetheart? Moreover, the suave tavern owner down the block is interfering in her business, personal and otherwise. Heaven only knows what goes on behind his doors.

Ross Dalton can no longer sell liquor in his establishment. With prohibition in force, it’s a mixed blessing. Ross met God on the battlefield, and he wants to start fresh, but he must earn a living. Converting his bar into a coffee house offers a partial solution. Still, bootleggers are pressing him to pedal their moonshine, and the girl up the street is convinced his place is a front for a speakeasy. She’s awfully cute when she turns up her pert little nose at his friendly overtures. How can he convince her he isn’t going to tarnish the neighborhood or ruin her business? And will she believe he’s a changed man when the bootleggers double down?

MY REVIEW

Life sure gave Polly Holloway a sack of lemons—but she surely did make a grand batch of lemonade. Not without heartache and struggle, of course. But she was determined to stay the course, and what a course it turned out to be!

A leopard may not be able to change his spots but Ross Dalton is no leopard. He is, rather, a changed man. And while prohibition has imposed a hardship on him, he relies on his newfound faith to make a way—and winds up with a grand batch of lemonade of his own.

Ms. Musch give the reader a sweet story with just the right bit of tart for that grand batch of lemonade. Friends and family (the sweet) and a handful of twists and obstacles (the tart) make this a grand story.

THE BLURB

Lena’s stay at The Inn at Falls Creek leaves her torn between loyalty to her family and marrying Philip for love.

Lena Vestal enjoys spending her days cooking for her siblings and her nights curled up with a good book… or a letter from Philip Roberts, the overseer of Falls Creek and only man ever to capture her heart. It’s safe to dream of a future with him while she is still sheltered by the older brother and sister who raised her. When Philip’s final letter announces his forthcoming arrival to take her to Falls Creek, Lena must leave all that is familiar to make her dream a reality.
Philip Roberts takes his duties as the overseer of Falls Creek seriously, not only to please God but also to prove his competence. Having been in the pastoral position for two years, Philip’s dissertation is anticipated by all the overseers of the Land, particularly his father. Producing a work of great merit would prove his worth, as would setting an excellent example of holy matrimony in his church.
Lena’s yearning for the security of Philip’s love compels her to spend a month without her siblings at the isolated Inn at Falls Creek. To prepare for their nuptials, Philip informs her the Land’s tradition requires they compare family lineage. When she receives hers from her sister, a shocking secret about her true origins means she must choose between protecting her family and marrying the man of her dreams.
And when Philip’s published book is distributed before he can check it, both feel their hopes dissolve.

But at the Inn at Falls Creek, no one is alone and everyone is worthy.

MY REVIEW

If you haven’t visited “The Land” yet you don’t now what you’re missing! Such compelling stories, such genuine and relatable characters, such a charming and simple life.

Timid as the proverbial mouse, Lean Vestal was content to remain in the shadows, clinging to the skirts of her flamboyant-by-comparison sister. Content, that is, until romance entered her life.

Philip Roberts is the Overseer who captures Lena’s heart.

Lena’s sense of identity—or lack thereof—resonated deeply with me, though for vastly different reasons. Stepping into the unknown and unfamiliar stretched her in ways she couldn’t have imagined, and as her dream became one with Philip’s, she was more than ready to take on a new and embrace the confidence that was gaining a foothold.

Until [SPOILER.] And as Overseer, Philip was bound by tradition and the long-established rules and guidelines, guidelines put in place for the good of the people of the Land.

As is His way, God always makes a way, and Ms. Keith molds her story in an apt and fitting way to demonstrate His gentle ways and the power of the Truth and His abiding love.

Oh, and by the way, your “ticket” to The Land is found only in reading the stories.
