Need someone to talk to about your startup? I bootstrapped to $140K/month

Hi indie hackers!

Ajay Goel, here. I'm the founder of GMass, which I've grown to $140k MRR (see my interview with Courtland on the IH podcast).

I'm holding an #office-hours session to talk to IHers who are interested. Most specifically, I can help you decide what features to add to your product to help it grow. I'm constantly working on improvements for GMass and can share some of my process around getting user feedback and incorporating it into my plans.

Recently, I also made the tough decision to end my service product Wordzen and transition it to a new "bring your own editor" model. So I can also share insights around how I made that decision, and when to walk away from something you've put a lot of effort into.

Leave a comment below, and I'll pick 6 of you to join the session. I look forward to it!

I am working on https://textita.com . An sms api for texts. I know i know I am up against giants in the industry. I must be mad :)

I tried it but seems it's not working in Italy.

You might just be, but similarly, I'm up against giants in the email industry. May the little guy win.

Ajay, not ready to do this today unfortunately (product in private beta and website not yet built – though I do have a deck) but I'd love to talk to you at some point, as my product is also a Chrome extension with mass market aspirations!

    Hi Ajay. Big fan.

When I look at gmass.co website, I see the animations displayed for Gmail to be beautiful and simplistic. How did you create those GIF animations?

Would love to have a quick chat with you!

I am a developer of a startup www.uvune.com. i also handle the sales aspect of the firm since we just consists of three developers, one graphics designer, and one operations officer.
we have tried severally to make contact to schools and organisations as our main goal is to make payments stress-free to organizations and parents alike and even provide a suitable means of keeping track of payments easily. we also make tuition payments automated over a period of time. But then we have only succeed in getting just two clients over a period of two years. The two clients are found on our event.uvune.com page. we have tried to figure out a way to boost sales all to no avail. Moreover, i believe with your years of experience and abundant knowledge in business building and analysis, we would get a great knowledge about how to go around it

Hi there. I checked out your website. The first thing that jumped out at me is your tagline, which needs a lot of improvement: "The aim is to make the world of business more convenient." That's about the most generic tagline I've ever seen and doesn't at all communicate what you do. I would start there.

        thanks, would work on it

Hi Ajay, I'm Andrew, founder of https://sugarkubes.io/. It's a marketplace for software developers to buy and sell code. Currently, I'm creating all the items for sale and just focusing on the demand side.

My main questions are around growth and marketing, I'm a developer and can't even sell my own car. I've recently had success with creating open source code as a driver to the site, but still don't have any sales. Would love to get your advice on finding product market fit.

I admit I don't know much about Docker containers. The one thing I've found is that everybody's business is different and requires a unique path to product-market fit and growth. Don't get frustrated because you read a ton of articles on Medium about the subject, try what others have tried, and still come up empty. You have to carve your own path.

@RealAjayGoel How did you come up with GMass? Did you do customer validation by calling them or did you just create a product to suit your own needs?

    1. 1

I created the product to suit my own needs, and then went out and found customers to validate that my needs were similar to theirs!

      1. 1

@RealAjayGoel How did you find customers and who would you picture as your ideal customer?

Makes so much sense to have a product like this. Especially for gmail users.

I'm working on https://trypigeon.co, an app built inside Gmail to help content creators. It's built on InboxSDK and uses the Gmail API, so I'd love to ask you a few questions on building and marketing a similar product as well as all the fun that's going on with the Gmail API security audit...

    1. 1

Sure thing. I'm a huge fan of Inbox SDK. To get you started, here's a post I'm updating constantly about that "fun" you referenced: https://www.gmass.co/blog/live-updates-google-oauth-verification-security/

This is really helpful Ajay. If there is any opportunity, I would love if you could ask them to clarify how the 100 users limit works. Maybe you already know. Specifically:

        • What will happen when I reach 100 users and I am not verified?
        • Is there any way I can see how many users have authed to my app?
        • If a user "de-auths" will that number decrement? Aka, can I ask churned users to de-auth and open up a new spot?

No worries if you don't have the answers. I will be a guest on the Zoom call as well, see you then!
