Yes but I'm talking about content creation, and lurkers don't create content. I just mean that if the content only existed within the groups pages and not on the front page then it would be difficult to find and the frontpage might not have enough going on.
Au contraire..lurkers would create content..if made to feel safe..and shown how...and..then matriculate into other groups...new members / users are crucial to any sites growth...they dont just grow on trees...they must be cultivated .
I would personally only consider joining a local group, and prefer the simplicity of no groups outside of that. If there were a local group, real-time chat might be nice in order to have conversations with some back-and-forth. MeWe has something similar.
One of the nice parts of IH is the simple interface however - groups might complicate it? Its actually less smooth than it could be to navigate between community, stories, and interviews already (when I first found the site, I had thought everything made its way to the main feed).
I hear you. Groups are less of an interface and more of a feature. Meaning, they enable certain types of conversations to happen and relationships to develop that wouldn't otherwise.
The best analog that comes to mind is Reddit, which has subreddits. Although I just watched a Mixergy interview the other day from 2009 where people were worried that subreddits were complicating Reddit too much. 😆
So I suppose the truth of the matter is: (1) Yes, adding groups or any other feature makes the site more complicated than a site with fewer features. (2) Hopefully the benefits provided by said feature are worthwhile, and hopefully the UI design minimizes the additional complexity.

Any suggestions to improve this? All of this stuff does make it to the homepage, actually. It just gets buried under the never-ending onslaught of posts.
There are two kinds of links I find worthwhile—those that help me learn something and those where I can help someone else.
I can help others most when they're working on something where I've had a lot of experience, e.g., an educational business or product or where they're learning how to code or learning a human language.
Some interviews have been helpful for me, especially GoRails. Some of the podcasts and the YT video with Vincent Woo were good. External links are sometimes great, too. The strongest signal of quality I've seen is that the content wasn't created by the person sharing it.
Yes, every update you post to your product page is now a milestone post. Where did you get the term "product update" from btw? Hopefully I've deleted that everywhere it appears.
As of a few weeks ago, the only way to create one of these milestone posts is to do it from your product page, which prompts you to "Post a milestone".
Some of these "groups" would work equally well as thread tags. I think IH is still too small to tuck content into groups unfortunately.
" Still too small " ?
...seriously...dont you know the lurkers out number members ?

I'd love to be able to filter out milestones and stories. That would make it easier to find links and questions!
What kinds of links are you looking for?

The very most useful was this piece Kevin shared: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/f68160db5f
I don’t have a product page yet, I plan to create one soon but I’m a bit confused by milestones.
Is every product update a milestone? If no, do both product updates and milestones end up in the forum?
Maybe you could create a FAQ page that explains how it all works.

The term? I remember you posted a question here on IH a while ago where you asked the community about this product update/milestone thing.
I think you made the right choice btw.
PS Am I wrong or IH and PH are becoming more and more similar?
Would be interested. Probably business-models specific verticals? Content sites, SaaS, productized services, ...
Yes! This is a great idea. SaaS is well-represented here on IH but there are a lot of other business models that excel in various situations.
Sounds great.
I'd definitely join:
I'll be personally on those where I could help and get help mostly...
Nice.
Kinda depends what the groups do 💁♂️
I'd join...
I'd definitely be interested in joining:
IH Dhaka Users Group
B2B

no-code
I'd join:

Career
AI/ML
Marketplace
My group would be
