MY REVIEW

With emotion, tragedy and forgiveness this story illustrates how life can change in an instant. There are a few subjects in the story that can be a trigger for some but is handled by the author with grace. Even though this is young adult book, it definitely is one that adults can learn from as well.

Candy grapples with the tragic loss of her father while trying to forgive the person who was responsible for the accident. It was so hard to see how Candy was alone in her grief many nights. Grief hits people in different ways and Candy’s mom chose a path that brings nothing but pain and addiction. I wanted Candy to be able to go to her mom for comfort but her mom was so buried in her own grief that she became a shell of herself.

The story is emotional and the author delivers a realistic look at how we choose different paths to heal from grief. I liked how Candy tried to fit in at school even though it was hard to be around certain people. It is easy  to understand how anger can grow as we struggle with forgiveness.

The story is told in a way where we see both Candy and her mom struggle through a heartbreaking loss. I grew to have grace for Candy’s mom because I could feel her pain as she gets deeper into her addiction. Oh how I wanted to tell her that the answer  to healing was Jesus.

As we journey with our main characters we see hope, faith , forgiveness and healing that only God can give. This has been a wonderful book that teaches that without forgiveness, our life becomes bitter. I would like encourage readers to soak in the many lessons the author demonstrates. God can heal our broken hearts.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Lethal Danger Tour & Giveaway by Celebrate Lit

About the Book

Book: Lethal Danger

Author: Jerusha Agen

Genre: Christian Romantic Suspense

Release Date: April 24, 2025

This K-9 team is trained to eliminate threats. This threat could eliminate them.

Being a loner is getting old. Jazz Lamont still can’t fit in at the Phoenix K-9 Agency, and she’s losing her best friend. At least providing security with her K-9 partner at the Tri-City Fair will mean revisiting the only place where she once belonged. But a series of accidents threatens her beloved fair and puts lives at risk.

Thriller author Hawthorne Emerson suspects foul play after the first “accident.” Moonlighting as fair security to investigate the death of his sister’s boyfriend, he’s eager to find the truth. He doesn’t expect the task to lead him to the cult he escaped.

Finding the culprit behind the sabotage is personal for Jazz and Hawthorne. But someone else has a personal stake, too. Someone who wants Jazz dead. When everything she thought was true is dismantled, can Jazz risk trusting others—including God—to survive?

THE DANGER OF COLORED GLASSES

Have you ever felt left out? Maybe someone you care about never accepts you or loves you, no matter how much you try to please that person?

One would think Jazz Lamont, the heroine of Lethal Danger, would never have experienced such feelings. After all, she’s a beautiful security agent who trounces bad guys without breaking a sweat, doesn’t fear danger, and has an incredible K-9 partner. She was chosen to join the elite Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection Agency, which means she’s one of the best in a dangerous, challenging line of work.

But though she doesn’t bat an eye when she faces threats and bad guys, Jazz is far from confident when it comes to social interactions. Thanks to a series of rejections in her childhood, Jazz is pretty sure most people won’t like her or want to accept her. So far, her life seems to be proving that assumption true.

As I discovered Jazz’s character while writing Lethal Danger, I was intrigued by how much her fear of rejection colored her point of view of basically everything. Sometimes, a comment that a gal on the Phoenix K-9 Team made would seem like a put-down to Jazz, though I knew as the author that the other agent hadn’t meant the remark that way.

Noticing Jazz’s tendency to see everything through rejection-colored glasses made me take a hard look at myself. What fears of my own are skewing how I see and receive things?

Is my desire for approval making me misinterpret others’ remarks as critical when they aren’t intended as such? Do my insecurities make me misconstrue or internalize social media posts or friends’ jokes? Perhaps my worries about finances or dangers to my physical safety make me see hazards where there aren’t any or avoid doing what the Lord wants me to.

How about you? Have you thought about the harmful ways in which your experiences, fears, and vulnerabilities might be coloring the glasses through which you view life?

Let’s all take stock together and then bring those burdens to Jesus Christ. He’ll remind us that the only point of view that matters, the only one that is accurate, is His. And He’ll help us begin to see the world through His perfect eyes.

MY REVIEW

What a heart pounding story this is. The more I read the book, the more I couldn’t stop until the very end. I have never liked the rides at a fair. They scare me and definitely make me want to run away from them. I like how the author gives us a clear view of the action by describing the surroundings with realism. I could hear the laughter and screams as people enjoyed the food, rides and games. I was not prepared for how the story became more intense as someone is out to cause chaos.

Jazz is a terrific character with keen senses and a need to be accepted. She has felt left out from her family for so long that it hurts to the core. Her insecurity is evident at her job as well when she takes things others say to be personal. Some of us can relate as we have also let rejection spill into our life. I love that her work with the K-9 team has given her some confidence. Her dog, Flash is very attentive and protective. I have always been fascinated by K-9’s and how they can detect danger before we realize it is coming.

Hawthorne impressed me with his detective skills even though he is a well known author. With determination he takes a security job to investigate a tragedy that  happened at the fair a few years ago. What is intriguing about Hawthorne is his background as a cult member. He thought that was all behind him, but subtle hints question if they have a vendetta against him.

When accidents start happening at the fair, Hawthorne and Jazz join together to stop it. The author delivers twists along the way that shocked me. I love how the story keeps getting stronger as our two main characters face trusting God, being accepted and healing from their past. Grab a seatbelt, strap yourself in and get ready for a ride where faith will be tested.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

More than Conquerors Tour and Giveaway by Celebrate Lit

About the Book

Book: More than Conquerors (Planting Faith Series Book 2)

Author: Carole Towriss

Genre: Biblical Fiction

Release Date: March 25, 2024

Kassandra‘s privileged and pampered life explodes when she meets a woman with next to nothing. When a glimpse into the lives of those less fortunate turns into a mission to help them, her father offers a choice: act like the daughter of a politarch and marry the man he has chosen––or leave home forever.

Unimaginable loss shakes Jason‘s world to its foundation, and he struggles to keep his faith in the Jewish God. He faces losing everything generations of his family have built, and one of the city’s elite seems determined to make that happen.

A visiting Jewish preacher shakes up the synagogue—and then the town—with outrageous claims. Paulos’s teachings fascinate Kassi but contradict everything Jason believes. As pressure amps up on every side, they must decide how much they are willing to risk to follow The Way.

About the Author

Carole Towriss is a Californian living on the East Coast. When she isn’t writing, researching, or editing her latest book, you can find her (and her cat) watching British television, googling obscure facts, or talking to one of her four kids.

More from Carole

More than Conquerors is the second book in the “Planting Faith” series. Each book is set in a city where Paul established a church. Book 1, Sold into Freedom, took place in Philippi and featured the woman with the spirit of prophecy and the jailer. I’m currently writing a novel set in Athens, and I hope to follow that with one set in Corinth.

I like to write about people who are mentioned only a few times in Scripture. Jason is mentioned only once, in Acts 16, and Kassandra is one of the ”prominent women” who came to faith under Paul. Paul, Silas, Timothy, Luke, and Lydia are all here, but they are minor characters.

I hope you enjoy getting to know Jason and Kassandra, and experience what it was like to be part of one of the earliest churches.

MY REVIEW

In the days of 50 A.D. we meet Kassandra. She comes from wealth and privilege. I loved her heart that wanted to help others in need. As Kassi begins her calling her father does not approve. I think he is more worried about his status. How sad that his heart isn't in the right place. A beautiful story of blossoming in faith and reading about Biblical figures. The research for this book is impressive and gives readers a sense of traveling back in time.

More from Karen

Breakfast with Leviticus

My father was a pastor and a man with lofty ambitions. He was known for setting goals others deemed impossible then achieving them. However, there was one that got the best of him. He determined our family would read the Bible through from cover to cover—together. On January first of each year, a morning ritual of Bible and Breakfast began. On cold days, Dad would entice us to the table with his version of a Hot Toddy. We’d sip on hot grapefruit juice and eat while one of us read the day’s Scripture out loud. We read Genesis… Exodus… then came Leviticus. No one had the nerve to say the book was boring and we didn’t understand it, but perhaps Dad felt the same. At some point we gave up. The next year, we’d start anew. Genesis… Exodus… then Leviticus. The next year, same thing. We started the day with images of bloody sacrifices exploding in our heads more mornings than I could count. We never made it past Leviticus.

We teased my father about this epic fail, but he took away something from this experience—the realization that most of us need a little help with some parts of the Bible. He started writing short daily devotionals to help people get through hard-to-understand passages. Years later, I took over where he left off. The Bible Companion series is the fruit of that “failed” venture.

Pastor Floyd’s Grapefruit Toddy

My dad’s version of a teetotaler’s “hot toddy” is easy, delicious, warming, and great for sore throats.

  • Squeeze juice from one half grapefruit into a mug.
  • Fill to the top with boiling water.
  • Sweeten with a half teaspoon of honey, if desired.
MY REVIEW

The Bible is the best place to find answers you are seeking. It is God’s Word  and
teaches us how to be more like Him. So the question arises if reading Bible study’s are valuable to our walk?  As a reviewer I wanted to do this study slowly with an open mind. What I found was clearly Biblical and grounded. With scriptures taken from the Word the author breaks down what these books from the Bible mean.

Whenever I read a Bible study I do my homework. Is the study aligned with the Word? Are there illustrations that reference Biblical figures? Will the study align directly from the Bible? I found this study to be thorough with scriptures that help with the study. The author has done a good job of breaking down the books from the Bible and given readers insight into what they mean.

I like how the study is easy to follow and helps readers apply the Word to their lives. As I read “ God requires unquestioned obedience when His direction is clear,” made me think how many times we think we know the direction to take. He is merciful though and allows us to ask for wisdom when we go astray.

This would be an excellent book to use for individual use or in a group. I have enjoyed doing the study and have grown spiritually from it. Grab a copy and  get ready to dive into God’s Word with purpose and more understanding.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Why I Wrote How to Sell 1,000 Books a Month
By Susan U. Neal, RN, MBA, MHS

When I first became an author, I had no idea how much marketing it would take to get my book into readers’ hands. Like many writers, I thought my job ended when I typed “The End.” But I quickly realized that if I truly wanted to reach people with the message God gave me, I needed to learn how to market that message effectively.

Over the years, I discovered what actually works. My book 7 Steps to Get Off Sugar and Carbohydrates has sold over 30,000 copies. In 2022, I reached a personal milestone: my overall Amazon author rank was 4,400. That placed me in the top 1 percent of all Amazon authors. As an award-winning, best-selling author and certified writer coach, I’ve gained a great deal of insight into what works—and what doesn’t—when it comes to book marketing. And I wanted to share those marketing secrets with you.

That’s why I wrote How to Sell 1,000 Books a Month. I want to equip Christian authors with the tools and strategies they need—not only to sell more books but to fulfill their divine calling. This isn’t just about numbers. It’s about spreading the message God gave you and watching Him multiply its impact.

MY REVIEW

Helpful, insightful, knowledgeable, and easy to follow guidelines make this a must have for authors. I remember once upon a time writing the first chapter of a book I was sure would be great. I never finished writing but still have that dream. I like how the author goes step by step to help readers achieve their goal of selling their book.

It is not easy to get noticed as an author, but with this useful and effective tools, the dream can become a reality. Joining a writers group would give you support and encouragement. Being in a group with like minded people gives you ideas and a network to start your journey.

Simple tools such as making sure you don’t overuse a certain word helps your book not get weighted down. I know I use the same words over and over. I may not be an author but I liked the book because as a reviewer I want to make my reviews interesting and hopefully help the author get their book recognized.

At the end of each chapter is action steps. Don’t overlook this because it is vital for a successful book. Edit, edit, and edit again will be one key to a book that will sell. The subject is important as well and needs to be clear to the audience. I like how the author emphasizes to zero in on a subject and follow guidelines to support it. I like how the author gears this toward Christian authors and gives them excellent tools to be successful.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
