Love’s True Measure Tour & Giveaway

About the Book

Book: Love’s True Measure

Author: Lori DeJong

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: June 10, 2025

Shannon Trent has dedicated her life to ministering to teens, even as she hides secrets that haunt her past. Born into privilege, she’s built a simpler life away from the expectations of her influential family. She’s content on her own, believing that to open her heart would mean unearthing her deepest shame. But when her charming neighbor stirs feelings she’s never allowed herself to entertain, his lack of faith provides the perfect excuse to keep her distance.

Hunter Kavanaugh has spent years chasing his dream career. But when his mother’s sudden death leaves him the sole guardian of his teenage sister, his carefully curated world begins to crumble. Struggling with grief, anger at God, and the demands of his job, Hunter is surprised when Shannon’s unwavering faith begins to resonate with him—and her ability to connect with his sister draws him closer.

As Hunter and Shannon navigate their growing bond, unexpected challenges force them to confront their fears and priorities. Both must either choose to trust God’s plan is far greater than their own, or risk losing the love of a lifetime.

About the Author

Lori DeJong (pronounced DeeYung) is an award-winning contemporary Christian romance author who enjoys penning stories full of grace and the redemptive power of God’s love that inspire others to hope regardless of circumstance, find joy in the moment, and grow in their faith.

Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Lori arrived in Texas in 2005 and dug those roots right in. She currently resides in beautiful Georgetown, north of Austin, with her husband of thirty-plus years. Other than their two fur-babies, their nest is empty, as their daughter graduated from college and settled in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area with her husband, and the sweetest grand-dog ever.

Lori loves to write about love and romance and all that fun stuff, with a firm foundation of faith. Clean but sassy, sparkly, and even goose-bumpy romance, with God in the middle and characters seeking and learning and changing, couldn’t be more heartwarming or spine-tingly.

Lori’s debut novel, “Love’s True Calling”, Book One of her True Calling Series, was the 2020 winner of the Scrivenings Press Novel Starts Contest, winner of the 2022 ACFW Genesis Award for Romance, 2023 Scrivenings Press Contemporary Book of the Year, and a doubl-finalist in the 2024 Selah Awards. “Love’s True Home” was released in 2024 and is a 2025 Selah Awards finalist.

More from Lori

As soon as Shannon Trent showed up in chapter one of my debut novel, Love’s True Calling, I knew she had a story. That there was something underneath all that joy and spunk that haunted her. That she felt she had to hide.

Although born to a life of privilege, she doesn’t want her name to be the measure of her worth. Determined to live a simpler life, she dials in to her faith, only wanting to be and do whatever God says she should be and do.

Hunter Kavanaugh, on the other hand, has overcome the instability of his teenage years to forge his own path. He’s made something of himself by his own grit and determination, and he measures his worth in terms of his success and the things it provides him.

When these two literally run into each other outside their building, his grumpy disposition, and obvious high-powered job, leave Shannon unimpressed. No matter how handsome he might be, she has no intention of getting to know this neighbor any better.

But God …

When these two meet up again, a friendship blossoms. Her heart threatens to take her somewhere she’s never been before, but his unbelief gives her the perfect reason to keep her emotional distance.

When God gave me this story concept, I was a little intimidated. Would I be able to convey the heart of a good man who didn’t have faith? Would I be able to flesh out a woman who had an abundance of faith yet still harbored shame from her past?

But as I started writing this story, I fell in love with these two and their journey to discover the true measure of their worth … and the true measure of love.

MY REVIEW

There was so much to take away from this story that I had to make notes so I wouldn’t forget to mention them. The author captures such a beautiful story of forgiveness that readers will be able to relate to. One of the main questions featured in this faith filled book is the question, “Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?”  One thing we need to understand is God didn’t do anything wrong. In fact He can’t because it is against His nature. We each are given choices. We can forgive or be bitter.

Shannon is a sweet young woman who has a heart to minister to teens. Her hard work is about to pay off as she gets her master’s degree.  I like how hard she works without depending on her wealthy family. Her family does have a few skeletons in their closet that will soon be exposed.

Hunter is driven  in his desire to become partner at the law firm he works at. I thought his first encounter with Shannon was quite comical. That was not by accident that they met as we follow the story. Hunter has his hands full when his sister comes to live with him. After the tragic loss of their mother he steps up to be his sister’s guardian. He soon learns that there is no manual of how to raise a teenager.

Brylie is grieving the loss of her mother and now finds her entire life uprooted. She adores her brother but it is hard to be the new kid at school . The author illustrates how grieve can take over if we don’t seek to heal from it. I like how Shannon becomes close to Brylie as she helps Hunter adjust to this new life with his sister.

I loved the way Shannon shares her faith when Brylie breaks down one day. That scene will forever be ingrained in my mind. The grace and compassion Shannon showed Brylie was so powerful and just what she needed. A change is evident on Brylie after their conversation. How sweet it is to see a teenager grasp the Word of God and embrace it. Will Hunter see how God has changed Brylie and find a way to heal from his bitterness?

I like how the author explains forgiveness with this, “Forgiveness doesn’t mean you’re giving that person a free pass. You’re not saying what they did was right. You’re telling them that their debt to you is paid. As your debt has been paid by Christ.”  Facing a situation that is hard to let go of, Hunter begins to seek wisdom to let go of bitterness but he finds it hard to do. Sometimes we are in the way when God is trying to do something in our lives. We need to learn to move and let God be in control. That means whatever anger, jealousy , forgiveness or pride needs to  be moved from our lives.

There is a lot to unpack in this  story but one of my favorites is the encounter Shannon had with a woman in a park. To discover that you are loved, accepted and find hope changes Shannon at the brink of her brokenness. God brings people into our lives just when we need them. Don’t miss this beautiful part in the story that illustrates the unconditional love and healing that God has for each of us.

“ It’s never a sign of weakness to reach out for help.”

Why An Ancient Worship Movement? 10 Reasons from the Early Church Fathers

As the author of An Ancient Worship Movement, and founder of St. Thomas Church I’ve spent years reflecting on the wisdom of the early Church Fathers—those giants of faith like Ignatius, Justin Martyr, and Augustine who shaped Christianity in its purest days. Their writings reveal a worship so vibrant and real that it pierces through the noise of our modern age. Here are 10 reasons, drawn from their own words, why we desperately need a new ancient expression of worship today.

  1. To Reclaim Worship as a Way of Life

Clement of Rome taught us, “Let us cleave to righteousness, for our whole life is a sacrifice to God.” The Fathers didn’t see worship as a Sunday event but as a constant offering. Today, we’ve boxed it into schedules and stages—don’t we need to live it again, every moment?

  1. To Restore the Power of Prayer

Ignatius of Antioch wrote, “Pray without ceasing, for it is the breath of the Church.” Prayer wasn’t optional for the early believers; it was their lifeline to God. Our distracted, prayerless culture needs this ancient pattern to reconnect with the triune God.

  1. To Center on the Eucharist’s Mystery

Justin Martyr said, “This food we call Eucharist, of which no one is allowed to partake except one who believes.” The Fathers revered the Lord’s Supper as a sacred encounter, not a ritual. Shouldn’t we strip away our casualness and rediscover its awe?

  1. To Embrace Simplicity Over Spectacle

Tertullian observed, “We assemble in homes.” The early church thrived without megachurches or light shows. Today’s obsession with production values begs for a return to that humble, uncluttered faith.

  1. To Rekindle Evangelistic Zeal

Irenaeus declared, “We proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to some, but to us the power of God.” For the Fathers, sharing the gospel was worship itself. In a world numb to truth, don’t we need their bold witness to awaken souls?

  1. To Foster True Community

The Didache instructs, “Share all things with your brother, for you are one in Christ.” The Fathers lived as a family, not a crowd. Our isolated, individualistic churches need this ancient bond in the unity of the Church.

  1. To Confront Modern Drift

Cyprian warned, “He who departs from the unity of the Church departs from Christ.” The Fathers fought heresy and complacency with fierce clarity. Today’s watered-down faith needs their courage to call us back to the real Jesus.

  1. To Ignite Personal Revival

Basil the Great prayed, “Kindle in us the fire of Your love, O Lord.” The Fathers knew revival starts in one heart. In our spiritually tepid age, don’t we need their passion to set us ablaze again?

  1. To Ground Us in Practical Faith

Polycarp urged, “Stand firm in the faith, doing all things in love.” The Fathers gave us hands-on ways to live worship—prayers, fasting, service. Shouldn’t we trade theory for their tangible practices to anchor our restless lives?

  1. To Dream of a Renewed Church

Augustine envisioned, “A people praising You, O God, from every corner of the earth.” The Fathers saw worship as a movement that could transform the world. Today, with faith fading, don’t we need their ancient hope to spark a new awakening?

These voices from the past aren’t relics—they’re a roadmap. The early Church Fathers show us worship that’s raw, relational, and rooted in Christ. As you consider to explore the book, An Ancient Worship Movement, I pray something of the genuine early faith of the Apostles illuminates your heart afresh to truth and reality. Jesus the Son of God is coming back soon may we be found doing His will, working with His Church and loving Him with First Love devotion.

Here are some summarized points from current reviews from the book:

“Thoughtfully explores Christian theology, delving into worship’s multifaceted nature—actions, evangelism, prayer, and communion.”

“Guides readers toward emulating the authentic roots of early Christian faith with a balanced, constructive critique.”

“Sets a spiritual tone from the start with an opening prayer that centers on Christ, not the author.”

“Offers fascinating insights into early church communion practices, making history vivid and relevant.”

“Strikes a compelling balance between theological depth and accessibility, especially in its practical prayer section.”

“Inspires personal spiritual revival with actionable guidance for deepening faith.”

“Critiques modern church drift thoughtfully, avoiding harsh judgment, and invites reflection.”

“Valuable for house church enthusiasts and believers seeking intimate worship renewal.”

“Provides a profound invitation to rediscover authentic worship through early church lenses.”

MY REVIEW

In this book the author takes us back to the beginning when worship started. I liked how detailed the book is as we glimpse different times in the Bible. Praise and Worship is a time when I can focus on Him. My hands go up and I’m lost in His presence. The author explains that the early Church wanted to reach everyone with the Gospel. Their hearts were to help those who didn’t know who Jesus was. We need to catch the vision of the early Church which was to be missionaries. Are we sometimes uncomfortable sharing Jesus with others?

The book offers an in-depth look at the beginning and encourages us to fix our eyes on Him. Over the years some churches have lost their focus. They seek man’s  approval. We must be the Church that worships God and wants to follow Him. When we turn away from Him, the enemy can come in and divide us. “The early Church Fathers were intensely Christ centered.”

We must remember that the “cross is an emblem not only for suffering but of victory.” Everytime I see a cross,  it reminds me that our sins are forgiven and we are set free. Jesus loves us so much that He made the ultimate sacrifice. Martin Luther taught all his followers to “make the sign of the cross a sacramental symbol and reminder of the Lord’s possession of  His people in the Gospel.”

I would encourage readers to take their time as they read the book and perhaps take notes to look back at. I like the many scriptures that are used to show references the author uses as we are guided through history. With Biblical figures and well known ones from history we see a clear picture of  what it was like in ancient times of worship.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

MY REVIEW

With emotion, tragedy and forgiveness this story illustrates how life can change in an instant. There are a few subjects in the story that can be a trigger for some but is handled by the author with grace. Even though this is young adult book, it definitely is one that adults can learn from as well.

Candy grapples with the tragic loss of her father while trying to forgive the person who was responsible for the accident. It was so hard to see how Candy was alone in her grief many nights. Grief hits people in different ways and Candy’s mom chose a path that brings nothing but pain and addiction. I wanted Candy to be able to go to her mom for comfort but her mom was so buried in her own grief that she became a shell of herself.

The story is emotional and the author delivers a realistic look at how we choose different paths to heal from grief. I liked how Candy tried to fit in at school even though it was hard to be around certain people. It is easy  to understand how anger can grow as we struggle with forgiveness.

The story is told in a way where we see both Candy and her mom struggle through a heartbreaking loss. I grew to have grace for Candy’s mom because I could feel her pain as she gets deeper into her addiction. Oh how I wanted to tell her that the answer  to healing was Jesus.

As we journey with our main characters we see hope, faith , forgiveness and healing that only God can give. This has been a wonderful book that teaches that without forgiveness, our life becomes bitter. I would like encourage readers to soak in the many lessons the author demonstrates. God can heal our broken hearts.

THE DANGER OF COLORED GLASSES

Have you ever felt left out? Maybe someone you care about never accepts you or loves you, no matter how much you try to please that person?

One would think Jazz Lamont, the heroine of Lethal Danger, would never have experienced such feelings. After all, she’s a beautiful security agent who trounces bad guys without breaking a sweat, doesn’t fear danger, and has an incredible K-9 partner. She was chosen to join the elite Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection Agency, which means she’s one of the best in a dangerous, challenging line of work.

But though she doesn’t bat an eye when she faces threats and bad guys, Jazz is far from confident when it comes to social interactions. Thanks to a series of rejections in her childhood, Jazz is pretty sure most people won’t like her or want to accept her. So far, her life seems to be proving that assumption true.

As I discovered Jazz’s character while writing Lethal Danger, I was intrigued by how much her fear of rejection colored her point of view of basically everything. Sometimes, a comment that a gal on the Phoenix K-9 Team made would seem like a put-down to Jazz, though I knew as the author that the other agent hadn’t meant the remark that way.

Noticing Jazz’s tendency to see everything through rejection-colored glasses made me take a hard look at myself. What fears of my own are skewing how I see and receive things?

Is my desire for approval making me misinterpret others’ remarks as critical when they aren’t intended as such? Do my insecurities make me misconstrue or internalize social media posts or friends’ jokes? Perhaps my worries about finances or dangers to my physical safety make me see hazards where there aren’t any or avoid doing what the Lord wants me to.

How about you? Have you thought about the harmful ways in which your experiences, fears, and vulnerabilities might be coloring the glasses through which you view life?

Let’s all take stock together and then bring those burdens to Jesus Christ. He’ll remind us that the only point of view that matters, the only one that is accurate, is His. And He’ll help us begin to see the world through His perfect eyes.

MY REVIEW

What a heart pounding story this is. The more I read the book, the more I couldn’t stop until the very end. I have never liked the rides at a fair. They scare me and definitely make me want to run away from them. I like how the author gives us a clear view of the action by describing the surroundings with realism. I could hear the laughter and screams as people enjoyed the food, rides and games. I was not prepared for how the story became more intense as someone is out to cause chaos.

Jazz is a terrific character with keen senses and a need to be accepted. She has felt left out from her family for so long that it hurts to the core. Her insecurity is evident at her job as well when she takes things others say to be personal. Some of us can relate as we have also let rejection spill into our life. I love that her work with the K-9 team has given her some confidence. Her dog, Flash is very attentive and protective. I have always been fascinated by K-9’s and how they can detect danger before we realize it is coming.

Hawthorne impressed me with his detective skills even though he is a well known author. With determination he takes a security job to investigate a tragedy that  happened at the fair a few years ago. What is intriguing about Hawthorne is his background as a cult member. He thought that was all behind him, but subtle hints question if they have a vendetta against him.

When accidents start happening at the fair, Hawthorne and Jazz join together to stop it. The author delivers twists along the way that shocked me. I love how the story keeps getting stronger as our two main characters face trusting God, being accepted and healing from their past. Grab a seatbelt, strap yourself in and get ready for a ride where faith will be tested.

More than Conquerors Tour and Giveaway by Celebrate Lit

About the Book

Book: More than Conquerors (Planting Faith Series Book 2)

Author: Carole Towriss

Genre: Biblical Fiction

Release Date: March 25, 2024

Kassandra‘s privileged and pampered life explodes when she meets a woman with next to nothing. When a glimpse into the lives of those less fortunate turns into a mission to help them, her father offers a choice: act like the daughter of a politarch and marry the man he has chosen––or leave home forever.

Unimaginable loss shakes Jason‘s world to its foundation, and he struggles to keep his faith in the Jewish God. He faces losing everything generations of his family have built, and one of the city’s elite seems determined to make that happen.

A visiting Jewish preacher shakes up the synagogue—and then the town—with outrageous claims. Paulos’s teachings fascinate Kassi but contradict everything Jason believes. As pressure amps up on every side, they must decide how much they are willing to risk to follow The Way.

About the Author

Carole Towriss is a Californian living on the East Coast. When she isn’t writing, researching, or editing her latest book, you can find her (and her cat) watching British television, googling obscure facts, or talking to one of her four kids.

More from Carole

More than Conquerors is the second book in the “Planting Faith” series. Each book is set in a city where Paul established a church. Book 1, Sold into Freedom, took place in Philippi and featured the woman with the spirit of prophecy and the jailer. I’m currently writing a novel set in Athens, and I hope to follow that with one set in Corinth.

I like to write about people who are mentioned only a few times in Scripture. Jason is mentioned only once, in Acts 16, and Kassandra is one of the ”prominent women” who came to faith under Paul. Paul, Silas, Timothy, Luke, and Lydia are all here, but they are minor characters.

I hope you enjoy getting to know Jason and Kassandra, and experience what it was like to be part of one of the earliest churches.

MY REVIEW

In the days of 50 A.D. we meet Kassandra. She comes from wealth and privilege. I loved her heart that wanted to help others in need. As Kassi begins her calling her father does not approve. I think he is more worried about his status. How sad that his heart isn't in the right place. A beautiful story of blossoming in faith and reading about Biblical figures. The research for this book is impressive and gives readers a sense of traveling back in time.
