Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: The Last Disciple: Gospel of John by Kurt Brouwer

Book: The Last Disciple: Gospel of John (The Last Disciple Book Four)

Author: Kurt Brouwer

Genre: Christian Historical Fiction

Release date: February 10, 2025

Discover the Untold Story of the Last Disciple to Witness the Miracles of Christ

In a world shrouded in doubt and darkness, one man holds the key to the greatest story ever told.

The epic saga of the Last Disciple continues in this captivating new Christian historical novel from Kurt Brouwer. Witness the miracles of Jesus through the eyes of one who was there. John, a disciple of Christ, watched the Son of God sacrifice his life on the Cross and entered the empty tomb after Jesus rose from the grave.

Witness Jesus Through the Eyes of One Who Was with Him

Years after witnessing the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Apostle John seeks to faithfully write down the life-changing events he experienced firsthand.

Go back in time with John to old Jerusalem as he describes the fateful meeting between the Messiah and Nicodemus in which Christ uttered the most beloved passage in the Bible: ”For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

John sets down the true story of Christ, contending with those who seek to water down the gospel message. Accompanied by trusted allies like Emmaus and Avram, John travels from Ephesus to Laodicea, Hierapolis, and beyond, determined to ensure the world never forgets the sacrifice and love of the Son of God.

John reunites with his old friend and fellow disciple, Philip, who is gravely ill. In a desperate bid to save Philip’s life, John seeks out the help of Evangeline, a skilled herbalist and healer. After Philip recovers, a mob whipped up by a high priest of the goddess Cybele lays in wait to attack John and Philip.

Will violent enemies of the faith cut off the gospel message John carries?

Witness the miracles of Jesus through the eyes of the Beloved Disciple—and discover how one man’s courage can change the course of history.

If you’re struggling with doubt, searching for meaning, or hungry to deepen your faith, The Last Disciple: Gospel of John is the Christian novel you’ve been waiting for.

Don’t miss this gripping tale of courage, conviction, and the eternal power of the gospel!

Kurt Brouwer is a Christian and a member of a vibrant Christian church on the Big Island of Hawaii. So, in addition to all the usual temptations writers face, Kurt has to fight off the lure of beautiful beaches, pounding surf, great weather, and lush golf courses. Can you imagine?

About nine years ago, Kurt did a study for his church on the Apostle John. If you’ve ever been obsessed by anything, you’ll understand what happened. Kurt couldn’t stop researching, digging, diving into the life of John and other first century Christians. Kurt read books by early church historians who wrote quite a bit more more about the disciples, but they often contradicted each other. Further, they never really delved into the daily lives and motivations, joys and sorrows of the first Christians.

Kurt took all of his research and knowledge, all the insights and details he had acquired and turned it into a series of Christian historical novels based on research and Biblical knowledge.

The first four books in the series are now available:

The Last Disciple: Crisis in JerusalemThe Last Disciple: Escape to AntiochThe Last Disciple: Exile in Ephesus, and The Last Disciple: Gospel of John.

You can also read more on why he started the series at his website.

More from Kurt

About 10 years ago, I read a piece on BibleGateway.com estimating that the Gospel of John came out fifty years or more after the Crucifixion of Christ! I couldn’t stop wondering what John did all those years? Why did it take so long to write the fourth gospel? Was it the world’s longest case of writer’s block?

In this new book, The Last Disciple: Gospel of John, we witness John struggling to put down on papyrus the life-changing events he experienced as he walked with Jesus. We go back in time and watch Christ uttering the most beloved verse in the Bible: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

While we all know this verse as John 3:16, John himself would not have understood this designation at all. It’s obvious to us that it refers to the book of John, chapter three, verse sixteen.

But, in the course of research for this series, I found out that chapter and verse did not exist in the first century. In fact, the first published Bible that used this format for both the Old Testament and the New Testament was the Geneva Bible published after 1500 AD.

As you can tell, I’m having fun writing these books. Each day I try to faithfully depict the lives of the first Christians and to show their love for Jesus and faith in the gospel message.

Category: Adult Fiction (18 +), 284 pages
Genre: thriller , psychological thriller
Publisher:  BQB Publishing
Release date:   March 2024
Content Rating:  PG. My book is rated PG for the times some of the mob characters utter mild curse words

A young couple decides to trade city lights for the twinkling stars of Branson, Missouri to fulfill their lifelong dream of owning a small-town tavern. But their idyllic country life filled with music and laughter takes a dark turn when a simple evening walk along the Ozark shoreline spirals into a whirlwind of chaos.

A forged loan application ignites a chain reaction of events leading to a shocking kidnapping and a string of murders that has the local sheriff's office scrambling to uncover the truth.

What started out as a dream quickly transforms into a nightmare as innocent people find themselves caught in a web of crime, betrayal, and one multi-million-dollar secret. With each twist more unexpected then the last, the real question is: who will make it out alive?

I really enjoy Suspense and Thriller genre. A Table Rock Mystery by Tom Wood is the latest book in this genre that I have read. Tom Wood is a new to me author, so I was excited to read the book for that aspect also.

Wow, I was truly intrigued by the storyline from the beginning. I LOVE Small Town settings and the fact that the couple in this story moved away to a Peaceful setting in Branson, Missouri really the sweet part of the storyline. The story took a mystery and suspense aspect just as they were settling into life in Branson. The characters are taken by surprise by all that is happening but handle each event with calm in the chaos. The story is action packed and fast paced, which I absolutely love. I thought that the suspense was coming to an end and there is another twist in the story. The book is an "on the edge of your seat" book. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Mystery and Suspense with lots of TWISTS! GREAT BOOK!

Danielle Grandinetti
Publisher:
Hearth Spot Press
Release Date:
July 15, 2025
Genre:
Christmas Historical Romantic Suspense

Twelve days. Twelve gifts. One unlikely hero.

Wisconsin, 1930—When Manitowish Waters librarian Olivia “Ollie” Larson finds a package on the library steps, she expects the children’s books she ordered, not a taxidermied partridge. By the fourth gift from her unknown and unwelcome True Love, disappearing to her grandfather’s isolated cabin in the Northwoods is the only way she can escape him.

Deputy Titus Wilburn is happy to escort the lovely librarian to her grandfather’s house on his way to the neighboring Yarwood cabin. After all, he’s been smitten with her since they attended school together, and she needs his protection. However, the plan fails when Ollie’s uninvited suitor discovers her new location.

As the man’s actions become more desperate and his gifts more dangerous, an unexpectedly bedridden Titus decides to free Ollie from this menace, which puts the enemy’s sights directly on him. Ollie refuses to let her injured hero sacrifice himself, but with the days ticking closer to Christmas, she may have no choice but to accept whatever fate her suitor has in store for her if she wants to save Titus’ life.

One cabin in the Northwoods … a decade of Christmas miracles.

I really enjoy reading books that are a part of a series. I read Book 1 in this series so I was excited that Book 2 is now out.  The Neighbor and the Gifts by Danielle Grandinetti is tBook 1 in the Christmas Cabin Series. I LOVE that a Christmas themed book was released in July. The book is a Christmas Historical Romantic Suspense genre.

I was immediately captivated by the storyline. The setting is 1930's in Wisconsin. The 2 main characters in this story are Olivia Larson and Titus Wilburn. Titus and Olivia have known each other since childhood and have a great friendship. Olivia is the Town Librarian and things get interesing when she starts receiving Secret Admirier gifts. Titus, who is the Town Deputy, decides to help her figure out who is sending these unwanted gifts. Olivia decides to leave town to a Cabin in the woods, figuring it would stop the gifts. The book is a short novella that packs a lot of action and a great story throughout the book. I really LOVED this book and how the gifts were associated with the 12 days of Christmas. The relationship with Olivia and Titus was so sweet. They knew they have feelings for one another and the Secret Admirer Gifts really had their friendship grown into a sweet Romance. The Christmas scenery and theme were very enjoyable.   The book is one of Friendship, Mystery and Suspense, Romance and more. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Suspense Romance books! SWEET BOOK!

Teresa Wells

Scrivenings Press LLC
Release Date: July 15, 2025
Genre:
Christian Historical Romance

1895: After losing their Georgia home, eighteen-year-old Delia Truitt and her family move to Blooming Grove, Texas, to work for a relative on a ramshackle farm. Set on helping her family dig out of their impoverished circumstances, she plans to open a dressmaker’s shop, combining her sewing skills and her keen fashion sense. But owning a business takes money she doesn’t have.

Unless she can finish her quilt in time to enter the county fair. The prize money would be just enough to open her shop. Determined and resourceful, Delia sets her sights on success—until her heart takes an unexpected detour when she meets handsome Clarence Parker.

Bent on respectability, Clarence refuses to let his past get in the way of his future happiness, especially after falling for spirited Delia Truitt. But his hopes shatter when headlines declare members of his former gang have broken out of jail and are heading his way, set on revenge. Though Clarence doesn’t regret testifying against the outlaws, he fears his future with Delia is in jeopardy. Clarence will protect her from the killers, even if it means risking their future together.

Can Clarence keep her safe? And will Delia love him after she finds out about his past?

Christian Historical Romance a genre that is a teachable genre and heartwarming romance. What Brings Us Joy by Teresa Wells is the most recent book that I have read. It is Book 1 in The Truitts of Texas series. I am excited to read a new series from a Debut Author.

WOW, such a sweet and wonderful storyline. The setting is 1895 and the story starts in Georgia and then changes to Texas. The 2 main characters are Della Truitt and Clarence Parker. Della Truitt has been raised in Georgia, but at age 18 her family moves to Blooming Grove, Texas after a house fire in GA. The family is starting over and they are living with relatives. Della has dreams of helping her family financially by opening a Dress and Sewing Shop, although she has no start up money yet. Her plan is to win the start up money as Della is making a quilt for a State Fair contest. Clarence Parker steps into Della's life and heart. Clarence has a past that he doesn't want Della to know about, but when is past comes out of hiding, he has choices to make. I REALLY enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Both Della and Clarence want to support family, except Clarence's family has caused his past to become a tangled mess. I really LOVE that they both have a growing LOVE toward each other, even in the midst of having to make safety a priority when Clarence's family breaks out of jail. Della realizes that she can trust Clarence even with a troublesome past. The book is one of LOVE, FAITH and Family. I HIGHLY recommend this book to those who enjoy Christian Historical Romance. FANTASTIC BOOK!
