My Review

This sweet story dealt with some hard issues, including fostering a child who had a lot of emotional trauma and was hesitant to open up and trust. It also looked at the ongoing emotional pain that John dealt with on a daily basis after growing up with an alcoholic father and being abandoned by his mother. He had a lot to overcome in this story and he grew quite a bit throughout the book emotionally and spiritually.

Grace had her own difficult situation in her background. She was scared to open up about it to most people, including John, and it weighed on her. She was also doing the best she could to be a good foster mom to Toby, while also essentially being a single parent.

I enjoyed seeing Grace and John grow closer together and also seeing the way Toby related to John so well. This was a good story with difficult topics handled well.

Review: The Roommate Remodel by Grace Worthington

If you are looking for a clean romcom story that still has plenty of swoony chemistry, The Roommate Remodel is a great one to pick up! It is book four in the Renovation Romance Sweet RomCom Series, however, you can easily read this book and enjoy it without having read the previous stories. However, if you have read book three, you will remember the hints that Jaz and Brax seemed to be drawn to each other even then.

I loved this story from start to finish. My heart hurt for Jaz when I read the text messages that she sent to Brax, during the time that it was becoming clear that he had ghosted her. After seeing how much they connected prior to that ghosting, it made the way she felt dropped even more painful. Then, when they were thrown together again as the story really got started, it made for some excellent tension between the two of them.

I also loved the teammates that the author introduced in this novel. I am so excited to read more about these guys in the author’s future hockey series! There was a great dynamic that grew between the guys as the story progressed. I could feel the bonds developing as they became not only teammates, but also friends.

Brax and Jaz sometimes made decisions that ended up causing pain for each other. Those decisions had solid reasons behind them, however, it also created obstacles that had to be overcome for their relationship to grow into more. I really liked these two characters and the emotional and relationship growth in this book.

Review: A Surefire Love by Emily Conrad

This story kept me eagerly turning the pages to see how things would work out for Blaze and Anson! These two characters had some very deep issues from their pasts to overcome, while also battling things in the present that were weighing them down. All while also finding their way to a love that could be the start of a beautiful life together.

It was very moving to read as Blaze shared with Anson difficult things about her past, as well as some specific instances when Anson had caused her even more pain by the way he reacted to her at times. It was interesting to see how closed off Anson was about certain events in his life. He really tried to control the narrative of how people saw him. I liked that Blaze helped him to open up and share his true self.

The things that Blaze and Anson struggled with in the present day with Blaze’s possible ADHD and Anson’s church leadership difficulties felt very realistic. While they were trying to live their lives and help others as best they could, they both had these things making that hard.

A Surefire Love is the first novel in the Many Oaks Romances series, but there is also a prequel novella that is fun introduction to the community titled Now or Never.

Audio Book Review: Love in Tandem by Becca Kinzer

I listened to the audio book version and really enjoyed the narration! Love in Tandem was such a fun story to listen to. There were some serious and sad moments, but this novel was primarily focused on a situation that forced these two opposites into close proximity with each other. I appreciated that even early on, Charlotte and Zach battled a bit of an attraction to each other, however, they were mostly frustrated with what they had been pushed into together. I did like that although this ride and camping were very out of Charlotte’s comfort zone, she actually did commit to trying to make it work.

This story had plenty of laugh out loud and zany moments, but also moments of connection for Charlotte and Zach as they grew to know each other. Their time together also showed some things that they needed to work on both emotionally and in their faith. The faith thread was light, but it was there, making this a story that anyone could probably enjoy. I liked the cute secondary romance that developed, too. This was the first book that I have read by this author and it was lots of fun.

Review: Sudden Mail-Order Bride by Regina Scott

This novel begins a new series. The main family is the Willets family, who also appeared in the final book of the Frontier Matches series, The Schoolmarm’s Convenient Marriage. You do not, however, need to have read that story to enjoy this one. But if you do enjoy this one and want to go back and see how Jeremy’s oldest brother, Jesse, found his love, you can jump back and read about it in that novel.

I really enjoyed this story. Caroline and Jeremy were kind people who had good hearts. I liked that they wanted to give courtship a try in order to see how they suited. I felt for both of them as they dealt with insecurities related to how others had treated them in the past. Their romance was sweet and a slow build. This novel also contains just a hint of possible danger, related to some unknown strangers who seemed to be staking out the Willets’ property. It added some tension and uncertainty to the situation.

I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series.

Regina Scott started writing novels in the third grade. Thankfully for literature as we know it, she didn’t actually sell her first Regency romance novel until she had learned a bit more about writing such as vocabulary, sentence structure, and plot. After numerous short stories and articles in magazines and trade journals, she got serious about her novel writing. The Regency romance The Unflappable Miss Fairchild was her first novel to be published (March 1998). In 2011, she was delighted to move into Christian romance with the publication of The Irresistible Earl.

Besides her novels, Regina Scott has had published three Regency romance novellas (“The June Bride Conspiracy” in His Blushing Bride, “Sweeter Than Candy” in A Match for Mother, and “A Place by the Fire” in Mistletoe Kittens), which are now featured in electronic book form as Be My Bride. Her novels have been translated into Dutch, German, Italian, and Portuguese; and Lord Borin’s Secret Love and The Rake’s Redemption have been issued in hardcover, large print editions. Review: Vanishing Legacy by Kate Angelo & Lynette Eason

I really enjoyed jumping back into the Elite Guardians world. You do not have to have read the original or follow up series to begin reading the Elite Guardians: Savannah series. Readers did meet Alana in the previous series as a side character as well as in the Christmas novella collection that comes directly before this book. However, you can begin fresh with this story without prior knowledge of her character if you want to.

I really liked the dynamic between Alana and Cash as well as with the children, Rocco and Penny. With Penny on the autism spectrum, it added an extra layer to the way she processed situations and even how she handled various attempts to kidnap her. It was fun to see how Alana and her son, Rocco, related to Penny.

The action in the story was very high intensity and there were a couple of times that I had to suspend reality a bit to accept that the characters could actually survive some of the things that they went through. But, this is fiction and so I enjoyed the wildness of it all and cheered for the characters as they overcame so many obstacles. This was a nice introduction to a new series and I look forward to reading the future stories. And I have to say that I loved the epilogue to this story. It was so fun!

Audio Book Review: Just Don’t Fall by Emma St. Clair

Well, it may not be fall right now, but I am loving jumping back into the Sweater Weather series! This is the first book of the series and I had previously only read the last book, which also features the hockey team, the Appies. From everything I had heard about this story, I expected to really enjoy it. And I truly did. It is one of those books that I didn’t want to end because it is simply that good. And I have to add that it was spectacular in audio! I really enjoyed the dual narrators.

Just Don’t Fall was a wonderful combination of the fake dating trope, along with a great sports and celebrity theme, as well. There were also some brother’s best friend vibes (they were friends in the past) as well as unrequited love (Parker had a huge crush on Logan when they were teens). I loved watching them fall in love as adults. Logan’s eyes were definitely opened to the grown up Parker. And Parker had to admit to herself that her crush on Logan never went away.

This story was packed with so many wonderfully swoony moments. It was also a lot of fun to read. There were so many times that I laughed out loud during this book. Logan and Parker had a great dynamic that came not only from attraction, but also from being two people who had a background of friendship and shared experiences together. They also both carried insecurity regarding each other. Even after they had fallen for each other, they were definitely hung up on the “what ifs” regarding Logan’s career and whether the other person could actually truly want them. Speaking of dynamics…the Appies team dynamic was so great! I loved the way the team interacted amongst themselves as well as with their “Boss”, Parker.

Just Don’t Fall was a wonderful and clean romcom with plenty of swoony moments. This is one that I know I will listen to again many times in the future.

Review: Earning the Mountain Man’s Trust by Misty M. Beller

Before starting this story, I was very hesitant. You see, I had it in my mind that Jonah was the man for Naomi. Based on the way they got to know each other and grew to care for each other in earlier books, I thought I had it all figured out. However, Naomi remained sad and worn down, as if so much more had happened in her life than the little peek we had into it. And as the end of book two drew near and I realized that Eric, her first love and her child’s father, was entering the picture again, I worried that it would be a love triangle…something I do not care for very much in stories. So, I was definitely hesitant. However, this author has written some of my favorite novels…so I should have known better.

What did I get in this story instead of the love triangle I dreaded and the loss of a friends to more story? Well, I got one of my very favorite tropes instead…second chance at love! There were things that happened that kept Eric and Naomi apart. These things were out of their hands and without their knowledge. There were painful truths that they both had to face. There was beautiful bonding time between Eric and his baby girl. There was a love that was still there between them, simply bruised from their time apart and waiting to be healed. This beautiful reunion story was a joy to read and I am so glad I did!

My Review

This book was really good! I haven’t read the first story in the series, but I did not have any trouble hopping into this storyline and understanding what was going on.

There were definitely some fun moments and some swoony moments. There was also a solid faith thread and characters who turned to God to help them through times of trouble and decisions they were struggling with. But this story actually covered some very heavy situations and covered them in a sensitive manner. I will put some trigger warnings after my review for those that appreciate knowing that information. Avoid reading the trigger warnings if you do not want potential topic spoilers.

Rory and Vi both had some very difficult experiences in their pasts that affected the way they viewed themselves, the way they viewed their value to others, and both of them allowed the fear of rejection to have a hold on them for quite a while in the story. Vi was especially bad about reacting at times by shutting down emotionally and simply running away from the situation. She was very reactive and emotional, however, as the author shared the events that had shaped her, the reactions she had did make sense. So, although I was frustrated with both of these characters at times, I simply could not set the book down. I had to know what happened next. I really did enjoy this story and was happy to see the characters work through their issues and find a happily ever after together. And I appreciated the sweet epilogue, too.
